The Voorschoten Weekend is held every year in the second weekend of September, this year it will be on the 9th, 10th and 11th. Many organisations in the fields of music, art and culture present themselves and the large number of volunteers running these organisations shows that Voorschoten has a vibrant social atmosphere. 'Toute le Voorschoten' is present on the streets during the event. The Voorschoten Weekend begins on the Friday evening and ends on the Sunday afternoon.

The very first Voorschoten Weekend was held in 1999. It has grown over the years. In 2014 nearly 25,000 visitors came to the event. 2016 will be number eighteen.

Friday
The kick off of the event is on Friday evening,  9 September, in the transparent Events Hall on the Treubplein. Three restaurants, La Casita, Floris V and Va Bene are organising the Weekend Dinner. There will be a three-course menu which includes a  wine-/beer or soda arrangement as well as water and koffie for € 50. Everyone in Voorschoten is invited. After that there will be a repeat of  last year’s successful “Foute Bingofeest”. It’s expected to be even quicker and even more hilarious this time, so don’t miss it. There are two rounds.

Saturday
On Saturday there is the traditional ‘clubs and societies fair’. About 100 organisations will have displays and will hand out information on the Voorstraat and Schoolstraat. For the first time the BSN Rugby Club will be present at the fair. At the same time there will be a recruiting drive for members and volunteers, always badly needed. For the most attractive stand there will be a prize.

Icons and symbols is the theme for the Open Monument Days. This year Duivenvoorde Castle is one of the partners of the Voorschoten weekend. Therefore the castle will be also be open on Sunday. Visitor scan wander through the castle on their own.

On Saturdayafternoon the Events Hall will be all about Music and Magic 4All, with music from Voorschoten, the world famous magician Carlijn, Balletstudio Giselle and Jeugdtheaterschool Theaterplaats from Leiderdorp. It’s a great experience for children.

At the end of the afternoon it’s time for music with shows from Casual for Music, Redelijk Onverantwoord, De Bierbengels and Bigband Cooldown.

Sunday
Sunday is all about art. Artists of various disciplines will be exhibiting and giving demonstrations on the Schoolstraat. The Art Market is one of the biggest in the region.

The Voorschoten Old Timers Association will hold an Old Timers Day. From midday onwards you can admire the sparkling vintage cars in the Voorstraat.

At the same time the Voorschoten fashion-retailers will present the newest trends in the Events Hall. The Weekend will be closed with LOS Nederpopcovers.

Terrace weather
With one exception there has nearly always been good weather during ‘the Weekend ’, as the event   is referred to colloquially. Cafes and restaurants pull out all the stops.  The terraces on the  Voorstraat are extended and are more or less full for the entire weekend.
